Metro funding gap equals bus cuts

Metro has begun a countywide public outreach process to inform riders of the proposed drastic bus cuts due to the absence of funding. Facing the proposed cancellation of 74 bus routes and revisions to 107 other routes, Metro is working hard to help riders understand the details and consequences of cutting up to 17 percent of the transit agency’s service. Metro will be in Bellevue to talk with you on the following days:

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 3:30-6:30 p.m., Bellevue Transit Center
Wednesday, Dec. 11, 6- 8 p.m., Bellevue City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE, Bellevue

What is happening on the north end of I-405?

If you have been out on the interstate at all recently, you know there are closures at times to accommodate construction. That is all a part of the I-405 – NE 6th to I-5 widening and express toll lanes project, aimed at relieving congestion along the corridor. The construction may be happening now, but the added express toll lanes won’t open up to riders until 2015.

Read on for project details and WSDOT’s current public involvement process to determine the future of HOT lane tolling along the corridor.

We'll be at the ice arena

Fall Commute Challengers are braving the cold and the new commute!

We will admit that commuting during the cold and dark Fall months is challenging, but our new Commute Challengers are not fazed. In October, we asked willing participants to change their commute for the month of December. They had to leave their cars at home or share the ride. The Fall Commute Challengers are keeping warm in cozy carpools or taking the bus.

Make sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to keep up with the Commute Challengers. If you have words of encouragement or any tips for the challengers, let us know on Facebook or on the blog!

Take a Trip to Magic Season in Downtown Bellevue

'Tis the Magic Season to spend quality time with the family. Don't hassle over holiday traffic and parking. Follow these travel tips and spend more time taking in the holiday sights, sounds and celebrations in Downtown Bellevue.

RIDE TRANSIT: More than 20 Metro and Sound Transit bus routes come through the Bellevue Transit Center. Park your car at one of the nearby park-and-ride lots, such as the South Bellevue, Eastgate, or South Kirkland Park and Ride and take a bus the rest of the way downtown. Visit King County Metro's or Sound Transit's trip planner to plan your route.

TRY THE B-LINE: Metro’s RapidRide B Line route begins at the Redmond Transit Center and ends in Downtown Bellevue with stops through Overlake, Crossroads and all along NE 8th Street.

TRAVEL WITH FRIENDS: Carpooling is a great way to shave time off your trip downtown. Be sure to use the direct access ramp at NE 6th Street off of I-405, as well as the HOV lanes on I-405, I-90 and parts of SR-520.

AVOID CONGESTION: Heading to the Bellevue Collection? Save time and skip the NE 8th Street exit off of I-405. Use NE 4th Street instead. Or make a jog to NE 2nd or NE 10th to avoid backups.

PARK NEAR THE PARK: Free on-street parking is available for up to 2 hours on and around Main Street in Old Bellevue. You’ll be steps from your favorite Old Bellevue restaurants, boutiques and ice skating!

SAFETY FIRST: With even more people out and about, please use caution when making turns, and look out for pedestrians.
